….Inspired by Nature…

Whilst on a family day out which included chasing mackerel, (people in the know will understand the fun of that!) and doing all the things that come with fishing, I noticed the truth about them, they were a lively fish with beautiful luminescent colours that caught the light. This sparked an idea within me … Traditional Irish Fish presented on platters that could be used to compliment your dinner table or that could be hung on your wall as a piece of art.

….Fuelled by Imagination…

I came up with the idea of having something beautiful but practical while friends were visiting from the United States, something that would suit the table or that could be hung as a piece of art. Some of my inspiration comes from my travels to America, England, Greece, Middle East, Germany, etc…and then there is my mother’s “good dresser “, where there was a beautiful display of Fine Bone China ware, fanciful, colourful and gold lustred pieces that she had inherited from her first husbands mother. There were other pieces of hand crafted ceramics displayed around the house from the Czech Republic with its Bauhaus inspired designs to the local Irish rustic pottery but it was that dresser that inspired many a wonderful idea!

….Made With Tradition…

The ‘Mackerel’ is hand crafted ceramic pottery made from white earthenware clay, glazed (made with a secret recipe), hand painted – mackerel – re-fired. The end product is a luxurious cream with beautifully hand drawn fish in colours that resemble the truth but add to the depth and fun of the product.
All my work is handmade, hand- painted, kiln fired and made in Cork, Ireland.
